Wingayongo Sulphur
Sulphur-bearing sandstones for a high-demand mining and chemical input.
Project Location
154 kilometres south of Dar es Salaam, close to Wingayongo. The occurrences lie near a motor road that is traversable year-round.
Geology & Mineralization
Sandstones at Wingayongo — adjacent and on strike with the SFRL licence in Rufiji District — are impregnated with elemental sulphur crystals occurring in cavities, reported to contain up to 2% sulphur over a considerable area. Large sulphur springs occur in the area.
Flat-lying sulphur-bearing sandstones appear to be upper Jurassic, similar to occurrences south of the Rufiji.
Demand
Sulphuric acid is in high demand across the mining and chemical industries, making a local sulphur source strategically valuable.
